Sonnie Badu’s Triumphant Comeback: A Night to Remember at Rhythms of Africa Concert
Internationally acclaimed gospel singer and songwriter, Dr. Sonnie Badu successfully held his much-anticipated gospel concert, ‘Rhythms of Africa’ after a decade-long break since he staged a concert at home in Ghana.
The night of praise, worship, and impartation of the gospel was a stellar display of music showmanship, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, as the Grand Arena (AICC) in Accra, was reverberated with the vibrant sounds of “Rhythms of Africa”.
A succession of electrifying and enchanting performances kept the audience in high spirits as renowned artistes and performances from Perez Musik, Nacee, Neon Adejo, Preye Odede, and Highlife Funk from the FRA band, popularly known for their Afrocentric gospel song “You Dey Feel the Vibe” enchanted the crowd with gospel tunes.
The night been a harmonious celebration of the gospel also saw momentarily pauses of musical performances to pay tribute to some gospel legends as Mary Ghansah, Rev. Yawson, and Diana Hopeson were presented with plaques of appreciation to express gratitude and honour them for their enormous contribution to the gospel music fraternity.
Notable artists such as MOG Music, Piesie Esther, and Joe Mettle, billed for the concert, also came through to grace the stage.
Then came the pinnacle of the night as the host of the show, the legendary UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu mounted the stage, met with a wave of excitement surging through the auditorium, erupting into a frenzy of cheers and applause.
Despite undergoing leg surgery days before the concert, the legendary US-based Ghanaian gospel musician defied all odds by jumping onto the stage without his crutches, visibly enthralling patrons to dance and sing along to every song, keeping the energy high throughout his set.
